Concentricity & runout
Define the datum relationship among gear teeth, bore/spline/shaft and bearing seats.
Duty
Rated and peak torque, speed, reversals, shock and life influence material/process decisions.
Inspection
Agree the report content before production when tooth or interface verification is critical.
Replacement and custom projects
Sun gears with through-bores or hollow interfaces for compact coaxial planetary arrangements.
For replacement hollow sun gears, verify bore fit, bore-to-tooth concentricity and the mating planet/ring geometry together. Photos can show the arrangement, but the controlled measurements determine interchangeability.
Bore size changes the section and the process plan
A large through bore or internal spline reduces the remaining section between the center feature and tooth root, so duty, wall thickness and distortion should be reviewed together.
For hollow sun gears, freeze the external tooth system and the bore or internal spline as one section before selecting the process route. The remaining wall thickness and gear-to-bore concentricity are central to the part definition.
If material and heat treatment are already specified, preserve them. If the bore size or internal feature is being changed, include torque and duty information so the effect on section strength and distortion can be reviewed.
