Knowledge articles can help frame a design review, but they do not replace the controlled drawing or project calculation. When a guide discusses a variable such as backlash or feed force, use the actual machine condition to determine the acceptance requirement.

Include the rack type, pitch system, pressure angle, required length, mating pinion data, target accuracy or tolerance, operating duty and quantity. A drawing is the fastest way to remove ambiguity.
